About Matt

I have taught second and year three in Austin, Texas for about eleven years. Before that I spent two years as a substitute, which taught me more about classroom management than any course ever did.

I came into teaching sideways. I was studying history in college and kept volunteering at an after-school tutoring program. One semester I realised I looked forward to that more than any of my actual classes, so I switched tracks.

Most of the worksheets I write here focus on early elementary maths fundamentals and beginner social studies. I am a big believer in giving students problems that feel like puzzles rather than chores my classes get genuinely competitive about our Friday maths challenges, which I did not plan for but I am not complaining.

Outside of school I build model trains with my dad.
