Grade 3 Mathematics

Purpose & benefits

Telling time takes way longer to teach than most people think. Kids need lots of repetition with both analogue and digital clocks before it clicks.

This time worksheet gives Grade 1 through Grade 3 students focused practise on reading clocks. Teachers use it during maths blocks. Homeschool families rely on daily practise to build this stubborn skill.

How to use this worksheet

Start with an analogue clock in the house that your child can look at while they work. Read the time on the worksheet, then walk over and check the real clock. Making that connection helps time make sense. If they get stuck on the difference between the hour hand and the minute hand, do a few together before letting them work alone.

💡 Tip: Sit with your child during the first few questions to make sure they understand the instructions, then let them work independently.

About this worksheet

Time is one of the hardest early maths skills

Ask any year one teacher what students struggle with most and time telling will be near the top. It combines reading numbers, understanding the difference between two hands, and doing maths in your head all at once. This time worksheet gives Grade 1 through Grade 3 learners the focused practise they need.

Pages progress from telling time to the hour, then half hour, quarter hour, and finally to five-minute intervals. Aligned with US Common Core Grade 1 through Grade 3 measurement standards and UK KS1 time framework. Pair with a real analogue clock at home or in the classroom for hands-on reinforcement. Practise a little each day beats trying to master it all in one week.
